Whether you want to volunteer with the Brigid Kahng campaign, need a yard sign for Brigid Kahng for School Board, or wish to receive updates on public education advocacy in Virginia Beach District 6, I’d love to have you on the team.

I'm the only District 6 candidate with children currently enrolled in VBCPS giving me a firsthand, present-day view of the school experience. I'm also the only candidate who's a Virginia Beach native, VBCPS graduate, and a recent classroom tutor: last year I worked with English Language Learners, students with special needs, and Core English classes.
As a legislative aide on City Council, I've seen how local, state, and federal school funding fit together — experience I'll bring to careful, cost-effective decisions for our schools
Students deserve schools that challenge them and prepare them for what's next — college, a skilled trade, or a career. I'll push for:
Stronger basics. Students shouldn't advance a grade level without a real grasp of reading, writing, and math. Higher standards, earlier intervention.
Cursive handwriting, earlier. It's back in 3rd grade — I want it expanded to younger grades. This isn't about penmanship; forming letters by hand builds the hand-eye coordination that makes stronger readers and thinkers.
Less screen time. Chromebooks are a useful tool, not a substitute for teaching. I'll push to scale back 1:1 device use, especially for young learners.
Gifted and advanced learning, protected and expanded. I'll defend Old Donation School for the Gifted and push to expand advanced opportunities division-wide.
Career and technical education, expanded. Not every student is headed to a four-year degree, and our schools should prepare all of them for what's next.
Safety demands constant attention, not a one-time fix. I support School Resource Officers in every building and ongoing review of security, cameras, alarms, and emergency drills. As a former volunteer EMT with Virginia Beach Rescue Squad (Station 14), I bring an emergency-response mindset to how our schools plan and train — because when kids are at school, their safety is the top priority.
Parents know their children best and should be part of the process — not an afterthought. I'll push for clear, consistent communication between schools and families: what's working, what isn't, and how decisions get made. Strong schools are built by schools and families working together.
Strong schools start with strong teachers. I'll advocate for teacher retention, real professional development, and cutting the bureaucracy that pulls educators away from the classroom — so they can spend their time teaching.
Every tax dollar in our school system should be spent on student outcomes, not overhead. As a legislative aide, I've reviewed contracts and budgets at the City level — I'll bring that same scrutiny to school construction and spending, pushing for cost-effective designs and clear, transparent reporting on budgets and test scores.
I'm the only District 6 candidate with kids currently in VBCPS, a Virginia Beach native and VBCPS graduate, and a recent classroom tutor. My priorities: stronger academic basics, safer schools, fiscally responsible spending, and real partnership with families.
